Highlighting outstanding contributions to the Toronto jazz scene by local artists, we're pleased to announce the four projects chosen for support through the TD Discovery Series Special Projects initiative: guitarist and composer Harley Card’s Sunset Ensemble; the Heavyweights Brass Band as they celebrate the release of their new CD, This City; new and previously unrecorded works from pianist Adrean Farrugia with saxophonist Joel Frahm for their new release, Blued Dharma; and The Smith Sessions Presents: Bitches Brew, Curated by Aline Homzy which showcases four women-improviser led groups.
Now in its eighth year, the TD Discovery Series Special Projects provides marketing and public relations support, as well as a bursary, to a group of artists whose special projects – events which go beyond their usual scope of activity – demonstrate a particular passion and vibrancy. Made possible by the generous support of TD, this initiative encourages the creation, development, and presentation of new material on the Toronto music scene.
“Each year, the Special Projects reflect the outstanding creativity of Toronto’s jazz musicians,” states Artistic Director, Josh Grossman. “Exploring new repertoire, international collaboration and unique instrumentation, these four projects demonstrate the exciting variety with which local jazz musicians approach their craft.”
