Originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Søren Nissen is now one of Toronto’s top call freelance bassists in the jazz and indie music scenes. He attended Humber College’s prestigious music program and has been performing and teaching full time since graduating in 2012. He has been a faculty member at the Global Music Institute (New Delhi) and the Humber College Community Music Program (Toronto). Soren has received the Oscar Peterson Award, The President’s Medal, The Yamaha Canada Jazz Scholarship and The Moe Koffman Award in recognition of his musical talent. He has appeared at the Blue Note (NYC) and has performed with many world renown musicians including Oliver Jones, Vincent Herring, PJ Perry, Terence Blanchard, Pat LaBarbera, David Occhipinti and Wycliffe Gordon. Departures is Nissen’s first release as a band leader and composer.
