Lightstone / Katz / Koller Klezmer Trio

Brian Katz (guitar, piano), famed jazz and Jewish music artist, Jonno Lightstone, acclaimed klezmer clarinettist / flutist and the great “all over the map” bassist, George Koller combine their talents to explore their fresh take on klezmer. Bringing together a multitude of musical styles and experience, the trio creates a variety of diverse moods by weaving the melodies of klezmer with the sounds and textures of jazz, Indian raga, chamber music, and down home rock’n blues! Dancing shoes and a whacky hat required!


Taking their name from the word for heart in the Afro-Cuban religion of Santeria, the women-led ensemble OKAN fuses Afro-Cuban roots with jazz, folk and global rhythms in songs about immigration, courage and love.

Embracing genres that have not historically fostered women artists outside of the role of singer, OKAN co-leaders, Elizabeth Rodriguez and Magdelys Savigne bring a fresh perspective to Latin and world jazz fusion through their powerful harmonies, incredible musicianship and potent lyrical content.

Okavango African Orchestra

The orchestra takes its name from the Okavango Delta, a basin in the Kalahari Desert in Botswana, where many different animal species come together to feed and find water. Predators and prey are forced to coexist and share the meager resources because of the harsh environment around them.

Internationally recognised as a jazz pianist, composer, arranger and bandleader of the highest order, the Cuban-Canadian Duran has been based in Toronto for the past two decades, but his musical heart and soul have remained closely connected to the land of his birth.

Aviva Chernick

Aviva Chernick is an award-winning singer singing in Hebrew, Ladino (Judeo-Spanish) and English. She has had the pleasure of making music with many wonderful musicians including Frank London, Yair Dalal, Jackie Richardson, Ken Whiteley, Levon Ichkhanian, Maryem Tollar, Lori Cullen, and Flory Jagoda. Aviva was one of the founding members and lead singer of the Canadian World Music group Jaffa Road with whom she toured across Canada and to the United States and Brazil (2002-2016).

Itamar Borochov Quartet

Israeli-born, Brooklyn-based trumpeter and composer Itamar Borochov connects lower Manhattan to North Africa, modern Israel and ancient Bukhara, celebrating traces of the divine that he finds in elegant sophistication, Middle Eastern tradition and downhome blues. Borochov brings a unique sound with him wherever he goes. Deeply immersed in the jazz tradition, Borochovʼs search for his personal roots resulted in an ever-expanding love for Arab and Pan-African musical sensibilities – a natural palette for a trumpeter-composer raised in Jaffa, an integrated Muslim-Jewish-Christian city.

Magdelys Savigne

Hailing from Santiago de Cuba, drummer/percussionist Magdelys Savigne graduated with honours in orchestral percussion from Havana’s University of The Arts. A JUNO-winner and GRAMMY nominated artist with Jane Bunnett & Maqueque, Magdelys is also an integral part of The Battle of Santiago (2018 JUNO nominated) and Bill King's Rhythm Express.

Asiko Afrobeat Ensemble

Asiko is an all-original contemporary Afrobeat band led by a master of the craft, Foly Kolade. Foly grew up and honed his musical skills in Ogidi Nigeria and moved to New York City in 2003 where he lead Asiko Afrobeat for nine years. He moved to Toronto in 2011 and slowly gathered a roster of players from the reggae, jazz, funk, and Brazilian music scenes to built the current incarnation of the band.
