Each year the Big Band Slam brings together high school bands from across the Greater Toronto Area for an afternoon of trumpet blasting, trombone sliding, sax squealing excitement. The Slam is not a competition; it is instead a chance to showcase some of the outstanding music being made by high school music students across the city.
The 2018 Big Band Slam is scheduled for Friday June 29, 12:00-3:45 pm, on the OLG Stage on Hazelton Avenue, and features bands from St. Aloysius Gonzaga, Brooklin High School, O'Neill Collegiate and Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School. Saxophonist, composer and educator Andy Ballantyne will serve as special guest for the Slam, rehearsing with each band in advance and performing with each band at the Slam.
