Carn Davidson 9
The Carn Davidson 9 was formed at the beginning of 2011 as a collaborative project between JUNO Award nominated artists, trombonist William Carn and saxophonist Tara Davidson. It is a nine piece, chord-less ensemble that utilizes its seven horns as both melodic and harmonic devices, anchored by bass and drums. This collaborative project is an opportunity for both artists to arrange their own compositions for this chamber jazz instrumentation, shining new perspective on their existing repertoire.
As leaders of their own bands, Carn and Davidson have each released three CDs, all entirely comprised of their original compositions. The Carn Davidson 9 performs compositions from both Carn and Davidson that have been arranged specially for the group’s instrumentation. Carn and Davidson arrange a percentage of the group’s repertoire but they also independently commission the arrangements of outstanding Canadian arrangers such as guitarist Reg Schwager, trombonist Terry Promane, trumpeter Jason Logue and saxophonist Andy Ballantyne. All arrangements feature the unique sound of their group, which is a lineup of prominent Canadian artists who are exceptional ensemble players as well as outstanding soloists.
